Clairsentience: What the 'Feeling' Sense Actually Is and Why It's the Foundation of Everything
Most people have heard of clairvoyance — clear seeing. It's the one that gets all the Hollywood attention. The medium closes their eyes, gets a vision, delivers a message. That's the version that sells movies.
Here's what's actually true: clairvoyance is just one channel. And it's not even the most important one.
Clairsentience — clear feeling — is the foundation that every other intuitive channel sits on. I didn't invent that idea. My mentor taught it to me, and twelve years of doing this work has confirmed it over and over. You can't have a roof without a house. You can't have a house without a foundation. Clairsentience is the foundation. Every other clair — clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance — derives from it. Because before you can see something, hear something, or know something intuitively, you have to be able to feel it.
And here's the thing: you already do. You've been doing it your entire life. You just might not have a name for it yet.
We Are Feeling Creatures First
We observe, interact with, and create our experience of the world through sensation and emotion. Before we have language, before we have logic, before we have any framework at all — we feel. That's not a soft spiritual idea. That's biology. Your body is your most primitive, natural intuitive instrument. The gut feeling, the chest tightening, the inexplicable sense of unease walking into a room — that's your system doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Somatic healing research backs this up at the physiological level — the body stores information, responds to environments, and registers data below the threshold of conscious thought. Your nervous system knows things your brain hasn't caught up to yet. Clairsentience is what happens when you learn to read that information deliberately rather than dismissing it as anxiety, coincidence, or overreaction.
We are not thinking creatures who occasionally feel. We are feeling creatures who occasionally think. That distinction matters enormously for this work.

What Clairsentience Actually Feels Like
The tricky thing about clairsentience is that it arrives in a form that's easy to mistake for ordinary emotion or physical reaction. That's exactly why it gets overlooked.
Clairsentient impressions can show up as pressure in the chest, a drop in the stomach, goosebumps without an environmental cause, an abrupt shift in emotional state when you enter a room or think of a specific person, warmth or cold in a specific part of the body, or a physical sensation that seems to have no cause.
The defining quality is that it arrives with informational content. It's not just a feeling — it's a feeling that points toward something.
Early in my development, I was out in public and got a little too open — I was flagrant with it, honestly, in a way I wouldn't be now. I was looking at someone and suddenly felt a male presence around me, and my left arm went completely numb. I said to her: did your grandfather die of a heart attack? She said yes.
That's clairsentience working in real time. My body received physical information about how someone died. The sensation was brief, specific, and externally sourced — it arrived in me but it didn't belong to me.
In readings, I've felt headaches that corresponded to someone's cause of death, pressure on the chest pointing to heart conditions, difficulty breathing for respiratory illness. These sensations arrive and pass quickly. They're not mine to keep — they're data.
The Difference Between Clairsentience, Empathy, and Anxiety
This is where people get tangled, and it's worth untangling clearly.
Empathy is relational — it's the capacity to sense and mirror the emotional state of another person in front of you. Most people have some degree of it. Emotional reactivity is personal history — a tone of voice or a look triggers a feeling because of what that meant in your past.
Clairsentience has a quality that's distinctly external to yourself. It arrives unbidden, often outside your current emotional context. If you're calm and focused and you suddenly register grief that has nothing to do with your present moment — that's clairsentience. If you walk into a situation and someone tells you what they are going through, and you feel their anxiety as though it's your own, that's more empathy. But if you had no idea someone was going through a hard time and you suddenly feel anxious around them, that is your clairsentience bringing you information about that person.
Anxiety is the most common source of confusion. Both anxiety and clairsentient impressions can produce chest tightness, gut feelings, and unease. The practical difference: anxiety is ongoing, connected to anticipatory thought, future-focused, and tends to spiral. Clairsentient impressions are abrupt, specific, tied to a particular person or situation, and tend to resolve once you've registered them. Anxiety loops. Clairsentience lands and moves on.
That said — if anxiety is a genuine clinical concern for you, address it with appropriate support. Don't use intuition framing to avoid that work. The two things can coexist, and sorting them out requires honesty.

Clairsentience in Mediumship
When I'm doing a mediumship reading, clairsentience is often how I receive the most evidential information about the person in spirit — specifically how they lived and how they passed.
A physical sensation in my chest might indicate a heart condition. Difficulty breathing might point to respiratory illness. A feeling of irritation and a sense of a mother might indicate that the person's mother is communicating that as a mother, they struggled with their irritation with their children. All clairsentience - both the physical sensations and more importantly, the emotional and personality traits.
These impressions are hypotheses, not conclusions. Under the EVIDENCE Framework™ that guides every reading I do, a clairsentient impression only becomes evidence when the client can verify it. I bring what I'm receiving, you confirm or deny, and together we build a case. That's how this work stays honest.
The most powerful evidential readings I've done have been built on clairsentient information — the feeling of a person's physical presence, the specific quality of their energy, the way their personality registers in my body before I have words for it.
Clairsentience for Intuitive and Psychic Development
You don't have to be pursuing mediumship for clairsentience to be deeply relevant to your life. If you want to understand the people around you at a deeper energetic level, make better decisions, navigate difficult relationships, or simply stop overriding what your body is already telling you — this is the channel to develop first.
Because it's foundational. Building clairsentience builds everything else.
The way I teach it in the Soul Alignment Collective starts with exactly this: learning to distinguish your body's baseline from the impressions that aren't yours. Before you can read the signal, you have to know what your own noise sounds like.
Practical starting points:
Establish a baseline. Before entering a charged environment — a difficult conversation, a crowded event, a meeting with someone whose energy tends to knock you off — take sixty seconds to check in with your own physical state. Shoulders, chest, gut. This gives you a reference point for noticing what shifts when external impressions arrive.
Track what comes in. After significant interactions or events, write down what you felt and what turned out to be accurate. Over time, patterns emerge — which sensations in your body tend to be reliable signal and which ones are background noise.
Practice discernment, not suppression. The goal isn't to quiet your feelings. It's to get fluent in what they're telling you. Every time you ask "is this mine?" you're developing the discrimination that separates reactive emotion from genuine intuitive data.
None of this requires an altered state. Most clairsentient development happens in completely ordinary circumstances — in the kitchen, in a conversation, in the car. With deliberate attention.
If You Want to Go Deeper
Clairsentience is where we start in the Soul Alignment Collective because it's where everything else begins. Whether you're here to develop your intuition for your own life, to understand the world around you at a deeper energetic level, or to eventually work mediumistically with clients — the foundation is the same. You have to learn to feel clearly before you can learn to see, hear, or know.
